Pokémon Fan Theory: Ash Has Been Comatose This Whole Time
A vividly imaginative show, movie, or a book always invokes deep-seated creativity in audiences. When the setup of the script and plotline is in a place that’s far away from the reality we know, then it takes the audience on a journey where they are equally curious and compare possible concepts. That is where the concept of fan theories come into play. Fan theories not only keep the audience engaged, but they also tend to give makers the idea of what they could do next, and it makes the show/movie or books more popular.
A new fan theory about Pokémon has surfaced, and people are unable to ignore how highly likely it is to be true. The show’s world is filled with magical creatures and unparalleled powers. But amongst all that, the lead character of Ash Ketchum has some explaining to do. For some unexplained reasons, Ash has been the protagonist of the show for 24 years and still is ten years old. This realization has kindled a new theory about the show. Initially, people toyed with the idea of Ash being immortal (the entire premise of the show is magic; this is possible too). But a particularly grim theory that seems to be the winner says that Ash may be comatose all this while.
But through all these years, Ash is not the only character of Pokémon subjected to darker theories. The show has underlying hints that always point to something shady and eerie in the plot and behind the kids’ smiles. The show distinctively talks about murders and abduction in the sinister Pokédex entries, and that was ample to convince fans that there is much more to discover. One famous theory is that the Pokéball transports the Pokémons to a place where they are forced into slavery. The supporting fact for this theory is that all the trainers never put their favorite Pokémons in the Pokéball. Even Pikachu refuses to go in the Pokéball. Another such theory states that Kanto held “Great Pokémon War” in its past, which can be inferred by the absence of teenagers in the Red and Blue games.
This theory of Ash somewhat clarifies the question of why Ash never grew up. This theory is slightly in consonance with the idea that the entire series is Ash’s dream, but not entirely. The pilot episode of the series shows us that Ash is a lumber kid who is late to Professor Oak’s beginner Pokémon-choosing ceremony and hence ends up with Pikachu. He tries to catch a Pidgey but instead infuriates the entire flock of savage Spearow. Pikachu gets hurt, and Ash pedals fast on his borrowed bike to reach the Pokémon Center quicker but crashes and falls due to Spearows. Pikachu summons a massive thunderbolt in self-defense, which tosses the boy and the Pokémon in the air. It is speculated that everything that follows in the series from that point is in fact Ash’s dream in his coma.
People have slightly different versions of this theory. While some believe that Ash went comatose when he fell off the bike, and others think that it was when the lightning bolt hit him. But no matter what version you prefer to believe, you cannot deny that the theory is a perfect fit. It explains Ash’s stunted age and eternally healthy body. How else can you be injured so many times in the series and still be perfectly fine? This theory can be the best tool to justify anything in the future of the series if the audience finds something weird or misplaced.
