Google Maps Tricks You Must Know About

Google Maps can create magic when worked with! It has a lot of features that can help you with your most stressful thoughts – for example, if you’re travelling to a crowded place, a place to park your vehicle is a frustrating job. Well, Google Maps make it easy for you.

Think of a lot of other things that it can do, which you aren’t even aware of. Below, we shall discuss its features and steps to do the same.

Useful Features of Using Google Maps

  • View your location while walking, Live

Taking the same example as above, if you’re travelling to a very crowded place and finally found a spot to park your car that is a bit far from your destination, it can get difficult to reach there when it’s entirely an unfamiliar place to you.

No worries! Google Maps got your back. It helps you view and your exact location and where you’re headed to. You’ll be amazed to know that the camera of your phone scans the buildings and streets nearby and directs you accordingly.

The steps to use this feature are:

  1. Open the Google Maps application and search for the destination.
  2. The directions for the same will appear. Tap on the ‘Walking’ icon from the top of the screen where all other options are also available.
  3. Locate the ‘Live View’ button on the bottom of the screen and click on the same.
  4. Now, hold your phone above to let the camera scan your nearby location. The arrows on the screen will guide you to your target place.
  • Using Incognito Mode

Google Maps enables you to hide your location from other users as well. This is what is known as ‘Incognito Mode.’ If you don’t want anyone else to access your location, you can use these settings present in the application. The steps to enable these settings are:

  1. Open Google Maps.
  2. Go to your profile by clicking on the profile icon on the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Select ‘Turn on Incognito Mode.’
  4. If you want to turn off the settings later, follow the same steps and tap on the ‘Turn off Incognito Mode’ button.
  • Use Offline Mode of Google Maps

During unfortunate times, when you’re lost and looking for directions via Google Maps, it is quite possible that your phone can lose signal or the Internet stops working. Google Maps luckily enables you to download the track when you search for it, beforehand. This way, it lets you view directions in the offline mode as well. The steps to use the offline mode are:

  1. Open Google Maps.
  2. Enter your target place and tap on the name and the location on the bottom of your screen.
  3. Click on the menu button that consists of a three-dotted icon, on the top right of your screen.
  4. Click on the ‘Download Offline Map.’
  5. Tap on the ‘Download’ button to confirm the directions with the map will be available offline.
  • Plan your Trip

If you’re looking for the time taken to reach a place, let’s say 8 hours, doesn’t mean you’ll reach the desired place in exactly eight hours. It is pretty obvious you’ll stop and rest in between. Thus, you can manage and estimate the total time you’ll take to reach by entering these details in Google Maps. The steps are:

  1. Go to Google Maps.
  2. Search for the first stop, for example, a gas station. Click on the ‘Directions’ to view.
  3. Now, click on the menu button on the top right corner of your screen.
  4. Click on the ‘Add stop’ button. You can add all the stops like this.
  5. Once you’re done adding the stops, click on the ‘Done’ button and Google Maps will show you the estimated time after calculating the stoppage time as well.
  • Find a spot to park your car

It is annoying to find spots for your car to park by roaming around. Google Maps make it easy for you. These maps help you find a spot and direct you to the location. The steps to use these settings are:

  1. Open Google maps and enter your location.
  2. Click on the ‘Directions’ button.
  3. The time taken to reach that place appears on your screen. There is a ‘P’ icon right next to the time which indicates ‘Parking.’ It appears in two colors, either red or blue. Red indicates heavy traffic and almost no parking spots, while blue indicates that finding a parking spot is easy.
  4. When you click on the ‘Find Parking’ button, all the locations appear where you can park your vehicle. Tap and select the appropriate spot and click on ‘Add Parking.’
  • See where you’re going before you visit

For example, if you’ve to book a hotel, check how it looks with the help of Google Maps before making any payment. The steps are:

  1. Search for the destination in Google Maps.
  2. On the bottom of the screen will appear a tiny image of the place. Click on the image to view the location nearby.
  3. Zooming in and out helps you judge the place before you visit.
