 Outlander is a historical drama television series based on a novel series with a similar name written by Diana Gabaldon. Its first season aired in 2014 and it has been running successfully ever since. The show also has some bits of romance, fantasy, and adventure. The show features Caitriona Balfe as Claire Beauchamp Randall/Fraser and Sam Heughan as James ‘Jamie’ MacKenzie Fraser in the lead roles. Ronald D. Outlander features the women, in the show, time-traveling from 1945 to 1743s Scotland. Initially, it is Claire Randall, a married former World War-II nurse in 1945, who finds herself transported back in time to Scotland in 1743. In the new world, she encounters the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser and becomes embroiled in the Jacobite risings. She gets entangled in their politics, rage, and war. With each passing season, this show amazes the audience and gains more praise. This year they came up with their 5th season, and here are all the essential details of this season.

Production and Release

As we mentioned earlier, Outlanders has been successfully running since 2014 and their first episode aired on 9th August 2014. With five seasons, this show now has 67 episodes in total. The makers of this show had announced the renewal for season 5 and 6. They made this announcement much before they launched season 4 in November 2018.

From 16th February to 10th May 2020, the 5th season of Outlanders was premiering on different platforms. Amongst all the seasons, this season had the least episodes. This season is based on The Fiery Cross novel. Now, it has been renewed for a 12-episode sixth season based on A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Their team had started filming for this season in April 2019, and most of the shooting took place in North Carolina. Milne Woods in Bridge of Allan, Kinloch Rannoch (for Craigh na Dun), Dunkeld in Perthshire, Thomas Coats Memorial Baptist Church in Paisley, and The Hermitage are some of the locations they visited for the show.

The Storyline of Season 5

This season is based on The Fiery Cross novel, one of the Outlander novel series written by Diana Gabaldon. The series was set in the 17th century. It begins with Jamie and Claire fighting to retain their home at the Ridge as the American Revolutionary War is around the corner. Then, Brianna and Roger get married in a big ceremony at Fraser’s Ridge. Soon a series of war and political tension happens that puts Roger and Bree’s relationship to the test.

Jamie and Claire are also affected by all the violence and battles. By the end of the fights, Jamie seems devastated, but nothing seems to affect the relationship between him and Claire. The last scene of the season ends with Claire and Jamie looking out from the porch, determined to savor the peace before dealing with the upcoming troubles.

Reviews and Reception of the Season 5

Overall, this season has favorable and positive reviews from the critics as well as the audience. Until now, Season 5 has an average view of 0.81 million, and it has scored 73 out of 100 in Metacritic. It has received 7.53 out of 10 on Rotten Tomatoes.
