Dune: Origins & His Extraordinary Powers of Paul Atreides

Paul Atreides is a strong psychic who was destined to do great things, and his birth was even prophesied thousands of years ago. It was because of her mother’s rebellious act that he was gifted with inhumane powers. He was supposed to be a tool of control, but his destiny was terrifying than what had been previously thought. His origins begin with the Bene Gesserit, an all-women cadre of psychics, who are known to manipulate others and have the ability to know when others are lying. They work for every noble household as counsel, but their true plan is to ensure the survival of the human race.

They have made an elaborate plan to achieve their goals. It includes a surreptitious breeding program to create a superhuman who has the ability of true prescience – Kwisatz Haderach. The Bene Gesserit is limited by their ability to see the future, so they seek someone who will remain in their control without the limitation they have. To achieve what they want, they sell Lady Jessica as a concubine to House Atreides. Jessica was told to conceive a daughter by seducing Duke Leto. They think that the resulting child must be Kwisatz Haderach. But they forget to take one factor into account – the bond that will be created between Jessica and Leto. They fall in love, and Bene Gesserit’s plan fails.

Jessica also conceived a son out of immense love for Leto, going against Bene Gesserit. However, they decide to go with the flow and use Jessica and Leto’s son to their advantage. Jessica knew the dangers his son might have to face, so she taught her the secret art of Bene Gesserit body and mind control, breaking another one of the Sisterhood’s taboo. Paul (Jessica’s son) also had combat training by the greatest warrior of House of Atreides, which complemented his Bene Gesserit training.

However, Paul had prophetic dreams, which turned out to be his most extraordinary power; this also meant that Kwisatz Haderach had arrived, albeit a generation too early. The Sisterhood also understood these signs and knew how dangerous Paul could be. Once he started ingesting the ubiquitous Spice, his dreams became more potent. His long exposure to the Spice ultimately gave him full prescience, making him the most powerful human on the planet. Bene Gesserit was fooled entirely at this point to believe that Paul had died. However, the native Fremen gave him refuge, so he could hide and live without any outside intervention.

It was part of Bene Gesserit’s plan to implant a legend of savior figure in the Fremen long back, which was finally fulfilled by Paul. He then became their Lesan-al-Gaib and was asked to lead them as Muad’Dib, their messiah. It was the loyalty of the Fremen, along with the powers of Paul, that ultimately made him the Emperor of the Known Universe, failing the plans of everyone who wished to control him and use as a tool for their ends.
